"Walking the Uncanny Valley" is thus a journey through the looking-glass of contemporary art, a shared hallucination that is as enlightening as it is disorienting. As the artists chart the course through this valley, they invite us to ponder, to feel, and to question the essence of what it means to be human in an age where the line between reality and simulation is perpetually redrawn.

As you leave, you carry with you the understanding that what is real and what is virtual are no longer separate—they are strands woven into the fabric of our daily lives.

Participating Artists Statement

United by the profound belief in the infinite possibilities of the digital canvas, our artists bring their unique perspectives to this exhibition. Each creator within this group harnesses a distinct synergy of tools and vision, crafting narratives that transcend traditional boundaries. Their collective efforts illuminate the essence of digital art, not merely as a form but as a transformative force that redefines the essence of creativity and connection in the modern age.
From the tactile virtual sculptures to the ethereal realms of 3D motion, each piece beckons viewers into untapped worlds, charting courses through personal narratives and collective experiences.
In this self-curated ensemble, each artist acts as both creator and curator, bestowing upon the audience an undiluted vision of their digital dialogue. The exhibition celebrates the interplay of technology and emotion, intellect and imagination, inviting us to witness the future of storytelling through the lens of digital craftsmanship.
As much an exploration of individual prowess as it is a communal journey, this exhibition stands as a beacon for the burgeoning digital art movement in Toronto and beyond.

Artists

Voidz

Voidz (@voidzto) is an anonymous digital artist based in Toronto, Canada. Since 2018, his work has reimagined the city from new visual perspectives through the emerging medium of mixed reality art. He creates artwork that makes people question their everyday reality and distort the expectations of the world around them. Voidz' art primarily lives on Instagram and includes collaborations with Drake, Stromae, Masego, FKJ, Puma, Burberry, Amiri, and recent exhibitions at Nuit Blanche and Beeple Studios.

Newcolossal

NewColossal is a 3D artist/designer and Art Director from Toronto, Canada - Creating surreal worlds and the strange objects that inhabit them.

Young Gun Motion

Joe Pascale is a digital artist from Toronto, Canada. His work specializes in surreal and unique ways of distorting the human form in fun and floppy ways. Joe's work is playfully absurd, and relies heavily on computer simulation in order to create unexpected outputs. Joe has worked on music videos for artists that include Red Fang and Danny Elfman, and has worked on projects for Adult Swim and Vice.

Arice

Arice is an Italian Digital Fashion Designer currently working as Motion Director at MediaMonk, based in Toronto, Canada. With a passion for fashion film and a unique visual approach, he has collaborated with notable designers such as Una Burke and fashion house Etro, as well as working with brands like Adidas and the Italian Vogue . Arice has also had the opportunity to work with music producer Skrillex, creating a music video for his new single. He is skilled in CG art and is known for seamlessly blending photorealism, hyperrealism, and surrealism to create innovative and exciting visual experiences. Whether he is working on a commercial project or a personal piece, Arice always brings his unconventional methods and fresh perspective to the table.

Rodrigo (RWR2)

Rodrigo Rezende (b. 1984), also known as RWR2, is a Brazilian artist based in Toronto, Canada. His artworks depict peculiar figures in many different mediums, aiming to express his personal feelings and thoughts about modern culture, behavior, and life itself.
Raised in small valley town in Brazil, Rodrigo left his humble family and community at early age to purse his dreams of living from his art.
This led him to study Graphic Design in Rio de Janeiro and earn a living through digital art as a professional career, later becoming an Art Director collaborating to create award-winning design and animation projects around the world.
After more than 15 years of experience in the creative industries he started minting NFTs in early 2021, beginning a new chapter in his life as an emerging Artist. 

Vini Naso

Vini Naso brings a tactile sensibility to the digital realm. His work, characterized by its textural richness and evocative forms, explores the convergence of organic and synthetic life. With a keen interest in biomimicry and the future of nature, Naso's contributions to the exhibition probe the symbiosis between human touch and computer-generated worlds, offering a tangible approach to the intangible questions of the uncanny valley.

Runbo Chen

Runbo's artistry is a dance of light and color, capturing fleeting emotions in digital pigment. Her artwork extends beyond the canvas into the realm of the experiential, where viewers are enveloped in an atmosphere crafted from pixels and code. In "Walking the Uncanny Valley," Runbo's creations encapsulate the vibrancy of human emotion within the framework of digital expression, bridging the gap with every stroke. Runbo Chen's multi-dimensional approach melds the organic with the virtual, creating a dialogue that stretches from the roots of Eastern philosophy to the frontiers of digital innovation.

Smearballs

Smearballs, the provocateur of pixels, bends the rules of digital art with a playful irreverence. His work is a kaleidoscope of the bizarre and the whimsical, defying conventional aesthetics with a daring that is both unsettling and endearing. Within the context of the uncanny valley, smearballs' pieces serve as a reminder of the uncensored subconscious, unfurling in the digital medium with a liberty that only virtual canvases could allow.
