BKK BROS. interview

1. What is your name and where are you from?
My name is Krisakorn Tantitemit aka BKK BROS. from Bangkok, Thailand

2. What's your backstory? How did you end up pursuing a career in art, and how has your life journey influenced your artistic style?
I studied design, so I've been working in the arts for as long as I can remember. I've been accumulating experience automatically. But the thing that has had the biggest impact on my work is something I loved in school: video games. I loved playing them, I loved the graphics, and I loved the design, from the consoles to the cartridges to the games themselves. I bought a video game magazine every
week just to look at the pictures. Back then, video game graphics were mostly pixel art. Once computers were able to create that style, I started trying it out in my free time. But since it wasn't a viable source of income, I eventually forgot about it and started working to make a living. I did graphic design, 3D, motion graphics, web design, digital painting, and street art. It was all good experiences, and I learned a lot of things that I can use in my current work. One day, I realized that I could actually make a living doing pixel art. That's when I decided to focus on what I loved the most."

3. Are there any people or artists who've had a big impact on your life as an Artist?
If you ask me who inspires me in my work, there are many friends, seniors, juniors, and famous artists who have changed my perspective and made me do new things, even though they don't know me or know of me. It's their words, actions, or work that inspire me, and I'll find it all the time. When I quit my day job, a close friend of mine said, 'This is your chance to do what you love. If you like to read comics, why don't you try drawing? Just do what you love.' So I started working on my personal art (for free, lol).

Rukkit told me that spray painting was a lot of fun, different from working on the
computer. Plus, a senior of mine said, 'Who's holding you back? If you want to spray paint, just go for it.' After that, I gave street art a try. P7, who I took a workshop with, I asked him questions that I wanted to know. I also showed him my work for him to critique. His words unlocked something in me and changed the way I work. eBoy, a German artist group who are the gods of pixel art, have been my idols since I was a teenager. Their work came in a new form that wasn't just for video
games, and they've influenced pixel artists all over the world in this era."

4. Have there been any big challenges or memorable moments in your life that made a difference in your art career?
The biggest challenge I faced was during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. My freelance work dried up, and I was struggling to make ends meet. But then, NFTs came along and changed everything. My Pixel Art started to get more attention, and I became more motivated than ever before. NFTs also helped me connect with artists from all over the world. I've made new friends and learned so much from them. They've also given me new ideas for my own work. Overall, NFTs have been a positive force in my life. They've helped me to grow as an artist and to connect with people from all walks of life."

5. What are some of your favorite accomplishments so far?
My favorite accomplishment so far is my NFT collection called GAMEBROS. It's a series of 360 pixel art images, and I'm still working on it (I've finished 235 so far). The collection is a chronological journey through the history of video games, from the NES (Famicom) to the Xbox. Each GAMEBRO is based on a different character or story from a video game. I'd love for you to check it out: www.gamebros.gg
